10-tammuzThis coming Shabbos is Shiva Assar B-Tamuz (“The Seventeenth Day of Tamuz”) which commemorates the breach in the walls of Jerusalem made by the Babylonians. It was exactly three weeks later that Jerusalem and the Holy Temple fell to the enemy.

Ordinarily, we commemorate these tragic events by abstaining from joyful activities and by fasting on both the Seventeenth of Tammuz and on Tisha B-Av.

But this year, both fasts are shifted to the following day (Sunday) to maintain the oneg (delight) of

membershipicon64The Annual Meeting of the Membership, originally scheduled for June 22nd, was rescheduled to accommodate the many members and directors who are participating in the Synagogue Council's event honoring Alan Teperow on the 22nd.  The Annual Meeting will be July 6th.  An amended meeting notice was mailed to all voting members. 

Join us this Shabbos as we celebrate the Bat Mitzvah of Dina Gorelik.  Mazal Tov to Dina and all her family and friends.

Thanks also to Randy Bock for his recent donation of an antique map that generated tremendous traffic for our table.  (Everybody stopped to see if their own home was on it, and chatted with us in the process.

Fleischmann Benyomin and NechamaOur first congregational Shavuos Dinner was a smashing success, with twenty-five participants of all ages enjoying socializing and learning together. 

Many thanks to Harold and Sybil Binder and Howard Bleich for volunteering to do shopping and delivery; and to Benyomin and Nechama Fleischmann for preparing a fabulous meal with six different Italian entrees; and to our Education Chair, Rabbi Yaffe, for suggesting this program, and to an anonymous donor for underwriting it; and to our presenters
