The Invisible Event

Most people don't think of The Nonantum Eruv as a weekly event, but providing it is very much a weekly event. Just as we work behind the scenes to provide a Kiddush, a Third Meal, and a Torah Reader; so too do we maintain the eruv.

Every Thursday afternoon, two specially trained employees inspect the entire boundary of our eruv and call in repair orders. Every Friday, we have on retainer an electrician with a basket truck, to make any needed repairs. Finally, the status message (which you can see on this page and hear at 781-446-9797 on Friday afternoons) is updated. This process ensures that our eruv is "up" almost every Sabbath.

The Adams Street Synagogue is pleased to offer sponsorship of The Nonantum Eruv each Shabbos. This is similar to sponsoring a Kiddush or Third Meal. Sponsoring this weekly service of the shul is an opportunity to honor an individual, memorialize a loved one, or celebrate a simcha. Your Shabbat eruv is much appreciated, as it encourages more people to participate in our Shabbat services and to join our community.

The donation to sponsor The Nonantum Eruv for one Shabbos is three chai ($54). When we announce the eruv status at services each Friday night, we will also acknowledge the sponsorship of this week's eruv, just as we do with kiddush sponsorships on Saturday morning. Your donation will also be acknowledged on our donations page and in the newsletter. To reserve a Shabbos, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
